Class 1

Reception

Reception is a special and unique stage of schooling. In class 1 we encourage children to learn and develop through playing, exploring, being active, creative and being asked questions to help their thinking

In class 1 we believe play is a very important part of your child’s development and most learning will be introduced through a mixture of carefully planned play and some adult-led focused activities. There is also opportunities for your child to choose activities that appeal to them, following their own particular interests.

The staff in class 1 are delighted when the children go home and say that they have been playing all day! To us that means they have had learning experiences which have been fun and enjoyable.

A big focus in Class 1 is encouraging independence and building confidence.  We equip the children with the fundamental skills needed to progress successfully throughout the rest of the school.

The class 1 team provide a nurturing, happy, secure environment, where every child is celebrated.

What are we learning?

Explore what ideas, topics and vocabulary our class will be exploring each half term. Below is also a document about how we ensure children are ready for the next stage of their learning journey into Key Stage 1.

Meet our teachers

Mrs Ramsden

Hi - I’m Mrs Ramsden and and I teach in class 1 from Monday - Thursday. I began my teaching career in at Netherton Infant and Nursery School in 2005 after graduating from a 4 year Teacher Training course at Edge Hill University.

During my 18 years at this school I have taught in both Early Years and Key Stage 1. My passion is for Early Years where I am currently a Reception Teacher.

I love working in Reception and feel privileged to be part of a child’s first experience at school. I care about giving children the best Early Years education and enjoy making their learning journey a happy, exciting, challenging and settled one.

I am married and a mummy to two gorgeous girls who entertain most of my waking hours. As a family we love the great outdoors and enjoy bike rides and long walks.  I am a keen baker and often create tasty treats for my friends and family to enjoy.
